MUSIC TO GET YOU THROUGH THE DAY — 2018’S TOP PICKS

Getting dressed, going to work, maybe hitting the gym, and coming home —  most of our lives have a set routine, thanks to our 9-5 schedules. And sometimes, you might just need a pick-me-up, a little something to get you through the day. And here’s where our kickass playlist comes in! A selection of 2018’s musical best — start your day with some 80s-inspired sound, and end it with a pop icon like you’ve never heard him before — this playlist will take you from work to play, from grind to groove.

Early mornings can be difficult for the best of us. Sometimes all you want to do is crawl back into bed, and even the strongest cup of coffee doesn’t quite do the trick. At times like these, we suggest a refreshing shower with Janelle Monáe’s Make Me Feel on repeat. The funky, sensual beat will have you dancing in no time, and if you’re a Prince fan, there’s no better way to start the day — Make me Feel’s catchy synth line reflects the Purple Rain hitmaker’s genius. But if you prefer a mellow start to your mornings, Shawn Mendes’ Lost in Japan strikes the balance between a foot-tapping beat and easygoing vibe.

If you still can’t shake off the Monday morning blues, bob your head to Kodaline’s Follow Your Fire while working on that boring proposal. About a relationship gone sour, the track starts off on a measured note, but quickly picks up — and the contrast of the melancholic words and the upbeat chorus will have you tapping your feet under your desk! For Black Panther fans, The Weeknd and Kendrick Lamar’s Pray for Mea synth-driven throwback to the former’s multi-platinum album, Starboy can make the worst work day just a little better.

Hitting the gym or going for a run after work always seems like a good idea in theory, but when the time comes, you’d probably rather be on Netflix with a pepperoni pizza for company. It’s hard to find motivation to keep fit, but with the right music, you could be the next Dwayne Johnson. Justin Timberlake’s Filthy, from his latest album Man of the Woods, has been the background of many a Youtube workout video, thanks to its catchy beat which  demands that you get up and dance. But if Latin music is your jam, Colombian sensation Maluma’s El Préstamo will have you acing that Zumba routine.

Once you’re home, you probably want to just kick back and relax — Mormors’ Heaven’s Only Wishful  is the perfect accompaniment to a relaxed evening with your favorite book and a glass of wine, as is Justin Timberlake’s Say Something.  Another gem from Timberlake’s Man of the Woods album, it combines his electro-pop sound with Chris Stapleton’s raw country vocals to make for some easy at-home listening.

Only in its 4th month, 2018 has already given us its share of earworms —  get listening to watch your bad days disappear and the good ones turn even better.
